In Katie’s own words:
Trey and I have a funny and interesting background. Trey is from Knoxville, TN. and went to the University of Kentucky to play football and I am from Lexington, KY. and went to Knoxville to be a cheerleader at the University of Tennessee. Talk about a house divided. Not knowing, but we were passing each other on I75 going to and from college who knows how many times. Little did we know our paths would collide so ironically and end up meeting in Knoxville through Trey’s sister, one of my friends I attended college with. Once Trey and I met, even the SEC rivalry couldn’t keep us two love birds apart.
The inspiration for our wedding was “My Old Kentucky Home” mixed with a little bit of “Good Ole’ Rocky Top” We wanted the great traditions of the bluegrass state to shine through our wedding, especially since we were having many out of town guests. We wanted to show them how great and special Kentucky is. We incorporated a bourbon bar and the wonderful taste of Lexington’s own Crank and Boom ice cream, which the guests raved over. We also had Kentucky themed food, drinks, and decorations including a Commonwealth stadium grooms cake, that of course had some orange added in for the VOL in me.
Trey and I both agreed that our most treasured moment was when the doors at the back of the church opened and our eyes met as I was escorted down he aisle by my father. The amount of love and happiness that came over us and filled both our hearts was truly a God thing and is a moment and feeling we will cherish for the rest of our lives. We also had another great moment towards the end of the night. At the reception we took a step back to take in the beauty of the venue and the love, laugher, and fun all of our closest friends and family were having. This was a precious memory that will forever be embedded in our minds and we were so glad we were able to share this special day with loved ones.
